Inspiration. It’s got to start somewhere! Being a food and nutrition teacher, the word inspiration is thrown around regularly, daily, even hourly! We are meant to inspire the next generation about living their dreams but the bigger question is what inspires me to inspire them?
The first thing for me, cook books. They fill up a shelf in my kitchen and although the shelf is growing, my kitchen is not 🙈 cook books are a key tool in any food teachers life and now even bigger now I’ve taken the next step to food blogging. Sunday evening, whilst the dinner is cooking, it’s my time to menu plan for the week ahead and this is where the recipe books come out…my inspiration 🥰
Some recipes I tweak prior to cooking (the long list of 20 ingredients, is just not for me!). I think 5 is the perfect amount, flavoursome, natural ingredients. I dont believe is buying ingredients just to use once and then for it to hide in the back of my cupboard. All trialled, adapted and approved recipes, once approved by my other half, make it into my own handwritten cookbook. I have this vision of years to come, my handwritten recipe book will be passed down generation to generation with crinkly pages and chocolate cake mixtures splattered all over. Now its these recipes that make it into my classroom too, to inspire, the love of cooking, the love of family.
And the second inspiration, even bigger than the first. Family 💑 I absolutely love cooking my family favourites. A number of recipes in my own recipe book are recipes that I’ve grown up with, my own childhood favourites and continue to cook and share. My Mums spaghetti bol, jewish style chicken soup and I cant forget my Dad’s pavlova that makes it onto the dessert table at every family occasion! It’s not a family together with out it being front, forward and centre! It’s my family that originally provided me with the inspiration to now share with you 🥰
Happy cooking!
