The Importance Of Kids Cooking Classes

5 Reasons You Should Send Your Kids To Cooking Classes

In this blog, I’m going to be sharing why you should send your kids to cooking classes.

It can be daunting thinking about children in the kitchen. After all, being the parent, you may often see carelessness or silly behaviour (just like most kids). It’s completely natural.

However, they won’t be kids for the rest of there lives and the skills we teach them now will often either make life easier or harder for them in the future.

Let you kids learn the Cooking skills at an early age, by sending them to kids cookery classes. It is one of the best things you can do for your your little ones, here is why.

Reason One:

Kids Learning how to cook, fights obesity In Future Life

According to Contemporary Health: “Cooking classes have not just been recommended as a treatment strategy for adults with overweight or obesity, but also as a part of the preventative strategy for children as well.”

Children develop habits, and habits turn into lifestyles.

A lot of habits are created by lack of knowledge or never taking the next step to understand a particular thing.

Addressing this at an early stage and teaching kids how to cook with fresh ingredients, will allow them to develop a healthy habit of “I don’t need to order a takeaway” “I’ll cook my own version instead because I’m fluent in cooking OR I know what goes into this sort of food”.

Reason Two:

Promotes Kids Self Esteem

Did you know one of the most common traits of highly successful people is self-esteem?

According to : “Self-esteem is the cornerstone of a healthy personality.”

The reason kids cooking classes promotes self-esteem is that it provides children with an opportunity to do things on there own from start to finish. Not only giving them a sense of satisfactory, but also a belief that they can accomplish things without anyone.

It’s almost like a GPS that will guide them in the right direction every single time they enter a kitchen.

“If I can cook all by myself, what else can I do?”

Reason Three:

Potential Passion In A Booming Industry

According to Independent the cooking industry is a booming business to be in BUT is lacking chefs…

Did you know the average hourly pay for a chef is a minimum of £30?

How amazing would it be if your child started kids cooking classes at a young age and developed a passion for cooking?

By the age of 18, your child would have enough experience in cooking to be a chef on a fantastic wage.

This is precisely what can happen when kids learn how to cook.

Reason Four:

An Understanding Of Other Cultures

Understanding other cultures is a fantastic way of meeting new people and often makes an individual more appealing to others, which, in turn, opens up new opportunities later in life.

By sending children to cookery classes, you allow your child to explore different cuisines and different people.

By interacting with people from all different backgrounds, your child will quickly digest information that will stay with them and likely benefit them in the future, maybe when they go to university.

Reason Five:

Safety In A Kitchen

I cannot forget to mention the safety aspect of kids cooking classes.

By sending your child to cooking classes for kids, they are taught how to navigate around a kitchen properly and what is appropriate behaviour and what isn’t.

They learn how to use the equipment and properly prepare food.

Now that you’ve got a pretty good understanding about why cooking classes for kids are so important, I want to cover a little more information about what’s involved in cookery classes and all the different styles, and things you can do to enhance your kids cooking knowledge after they have attended a cooking class.

What’s Included In Kids Cookery Classes

Most kids cooking classes prepare the absolute fundamentals of how to cook, prep food and act in a kitchen.

For example; In my kids cooking classes, I teach them fundamental skills first to build up a child’s confidence in the kitchen.

So, the first thing I want the kids to learn is feeling and understanding food.

Every Monday, I run a cupcake or some related style class where the children get to learn how to make the dough and mix ingredients etc…

Starting with something basic quickly builds confidence and undo any potential damage a child may have picked up in school or at home.

I don’t want to go into to much detail about the children cooking classes I run, but here is a blog I created from one of my past classes, showing exactly what takes place.

Styles Of Cooking Classes For Kids

I would say for every sort of cuisine; there’s likely a kids cookery class for it.

Here are a few different style cooking classes which are kid-friendly:

  • Indian cooking classes
  • Vegan cooking classes
  • Vegetarian cooking classes
  • Italian cooking classes
  • Baking cooking classes

I would say get them to a baking cooking class or an Italian cooking class as they are the easiest out of the lot (in my opinion)

How to Enhance Kids Cooking Skills

I’ve seen a lot of parents get nervous when I recommended keeping building on what the kids have learnt in a cooking class.

BUT, the minute I tell them they don’t need to teach them how to cook etc… they instantly get on the same wavelength.

All you need to do is get some kids cooking books with simple kid-friendly recipes they can follow when they are not in cooking class.

Here is a list of some kid-friendly cooking books I’ve had a look at in the past:

Necessary, always make sure you supervise your children in the kitchen until they reached teens.
